UCRC’s Spring Season 2024

UCRC is back from winter break and we are ready for the upcoming season. As always, we start indoors at the Tanks for training, and we head back to the water starting on spring break. Nathan Damas Shatters Record Board

Let it be known that the Bearcats are fierce and full of fight. With competition always around the corner, UCRC takes training seriously. Every year, our main focus is to improve technique, become stronger, and drop our splits. When it's time to compete in a regatta, there are no breaks between meters. Every summer, the team finishes the season strong at ACRA, then they store the boats until the fall semester starts.  While the Bearcats look forward to the summer for relaxation in the sun, they inevitably miss the adrenaline rush of rowing. The team returns to training in January and we hope to see you! UCRC is recruiting rowers who are strong and disciplined athletes that want to propel their boat. The team also needs coxswains, who are loud, proud, guides of the larger boats. Most of our athletes have joined with no previous experience, so accept the challenge of trying something new and maybe you'll love it as much as they do. A Tradition of Excellence

In the fall of 1981 eager students with the help of Cincinnati area rowers William Engeman and Harry H. Graves founded the University of Cincinnati Rowing Team. Initially the team was an entity within the Cincinnati Rowing Foundation, an umbrella organization that encompassed Cincinnati Rowing Club, Outdoor Co-operative (Cincinnati Junior RC) and Xavier University and the Cincinnati Training Center. Founding members Tom Ritter, Steven Baker and Tom Stork took on the great task of developing the structure for both men’s and women’s rowing representing the university, although they commuted to Lake Harsha to train the team had early success at the Dad Vail regatta where medals were earned in the first few years.
