Dad Vail Regatta

May 30, 2018

Our student athletes traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the 80th year of the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta facing off against very strong competition. UCRC is happy to progress from sending 5 athletes the previous year to sending 23 members to the 2018 competition. Of these 23 members 2 boats advanced to grand finals including a men’s varsity pair and a men’s single. After making it through their respective time trials and heats Chris Bak placed third in the final for the men’s single and Nate Calabrese and Alex Stringfellow finished 6th in their heat pulling a time of 7:25.7. The varsity double finished second in their B final with a time of 7:23.3. The varsity women’s four finished 1st in C finals pulling a time of 7:47.85. The novice women’s four missed advancing to the grand final, and competed in B finals finishing second behind Manhattan with a finishing time of 8:02.9. In looking and overall standings this put the novice boat in the top 50% of the competition they faced. After a rough start for the novice men they finished at the top of D finals in an eight with a time of 6:45.1. Going forward they are looking to make advances through their competition in the two weeks leading up to ACRA.
